Canon Lens Rental
« on: July 19, 2006, 06:22:18 pm »

I am going to Glacier, Yellowstone, and Grand Teton National Parks in a few weeks. The emphasis of my trip will be wildlife photography and I want to rent a good 400, 500, or 600 mm Canon telephoto lens. Does anyone have any suggestions for where I can rent one? I've been browsing the internet and have yet to find anything.

I'm not sure where you're located, but most major cities should have rental facilities. In Los Angeles, you can check Samy's Camera or PRS PHOTOGRAPHIC RENTAL SERVICE (323-467-1212).

I'm in the midwest (Ann Arbor, MI) so I'll check for places in Detroit or Chicago. If anyone knows of any good ones though, I would love to know.

I think there's a Calumet Photo in Chicago. They should have rentals available.

Actually, since I am going to be driving out from Ann Arbor, it would probably make more sense to rent from a place in Montana or Wyoming. Does anyone know of places in either of those states?

I doubt you'll have much luck finding a lens rental outfit in either of those states. You should look in major cities. Are you going through any major cities on your way to Yellowstone?

For example, San Francisco is big enough to have some lens rental outfits (e.g., Adolph Gasser, Pro Camera), but even San Jose is not big enough to have one (unless I'm mistaken).

Think *BIG* cities.

I don't remember which one, but there's a shop in SLC Utah that rents.  Pretty large selection as I recall.

Calumet lists a 400 & 600 in the rental catalog - I would suggest calling 312 440 4920 and checking with Rental to make sure one is available.

By the way - Calumet is actually based here in Chicago, well Bensenville to be exact.

I've used www.lensprotogo.com a couple times, and their prices aren't too bad (& include shipping). Lens selection is good also. Very fast and great customer service.
