5D Scratches on Sensor?

Hi,

On my brand new Canon 5D, I appear to have scratches on the sensor. They are circular, two of them. I've not been anywhere near the sensor, and it was during processing some images with blank sky that I saw faint lines similar to film scratches.

Could this be residue on the sensor from the manufacturing process, or does this sound like scratches?

I'm a bit dumbfounded that this should be the case with a brand new camera.

I can post some examples if anyone wishes to see them. They are very faint, and can be cloned out using the healing brush in PS.

The sensor isn't scratched, but instead the low pass filter, which on a Canon setup sits directly on top of the sensor.  

If the filter is scratched and you purchased it new, then you should be able to return it for another one.

I hope the manufacturer does the decent thing. My D200 has two large faint blobs on the filter, which cannot be removed by wet cleaning and which were present before any cleaning. They are not visible except when taking test shots and boosting levels to a silly degree. So I take them to be an artifact of pixel peeping and of no interest otherwise. At least I hope so.  Leif.

Probably just needs cleaning. Many new EOS DSLRs, especially the 5D, need to be cleaned straight outta the box. It's pretty routine.

Looks like some residue.. Should be able to get off easily by sensor cleaning. As stated, the canon DSLRs I have purchased over the years commonly have dust right out of the box. Also at f22, you may see dust if it is present on the lens. Mark
