Image CIrcle for Lenses for the Hasselblad X1D and Fuji GFX
« on: January 07, 2017, 10:14:38 am »

I am sure it is somewhere on this site, but I can't find it. For the Fuji GFX, where we will be able to use an adapter for external lenses (probably), this would be restricted to LF lenses with large image circles, of which I have a few. If you know, please, what is the image circle required on lenses for use on the Fuji GFXf? Is this the same for the Hasselblad X1D, since they have the same-sized sensor or does the flange distance determine this?

Hi Michael,

55 mm for both, calculate as sqrt(22^2 + 33^2).

Adapting foreign lenses to the X1D may be tricky.

Best regards

I am not thinking of the X1D, but the GFX. I wanted to make sure they were similar. The GFX should take lenses with an adapter, at least if their image circles are large enough. And since I often shoot macro, I may be able to get away with lenses that have smaller image circles. ANd I have LF lenses, etc. that will work, and they are in Nikon F-Mount.

I am just thinking out loud. The more I consider the GFX, the more I am perhaps interested. I want to make sure it has an Electronic Front Curtain, but I am sure it will. I like the maneuverable screen on the back, and that it can be set perpendicular, so you can look straight down on it. I like that its rear screen is supposedly decent, probably better than the X1D. And the price for the system and additional lenses is more reasonable, etc.

I may look at both systems, but I really have no idea when the X1D will debut, but the GFX is apt to be on schedule. I sometimes wonder whether Hasselblad just put their foot in the door to block the GFX, knowing that they would have to scramble.

I don't like the scramble, either. The fact that DJI may now have controlling interest in Hasselblad is probably a good thing, but not sure how that will immediately help the release of the X1D.

I'm just hedging my bets, of course.

How do I figure out the image circle for a particular lens?

I wouldn't be so sure about EFC... I hope it has one, but as far as I know NOBODY using that sensor made it possible so far.

Hi,

Seems that both EFC and electronic shutter are confirmed…

Best regards

Hi,

Large format lenses generally give the image circle on the spec sheet. But the image circle is a bit diffuse, depends on what is acceptable for the photographer. LF lenses often need LLC shot and LLC processing to handle vignetting and lens cast.

Stefan Steib published a table with image circle data for quite a few MF lenses, but I cannot find it see attachment.

Thanks Erik, that is helpful!

NickT: I have seen no proof that the X1D is shipping in any quantity, but let's not argue. I can say, I just spoke with B&H and they have NO idea when the camera will arrive.

Michael, funny as BH already shipped at least one camera to a customer.....

It is correct, however, that in the U.K. Or Germany you really can't about quantity.

That may be, but monitoring many forums, etc., in general (and me in particular), the don't seem to be shipping.

Let's argue about it.  :)

If B&H, with whom I have worked for many years tells me directly that they have "no idea" when the X1D camera will arrive, none... I believe them. A drop of rain does not a shower make.

Don't get me wrong. The whole process is embarrassing for Hasselblad, especially the one communications... ( for the record that has nothing to do with you nick and it's not your job to do any of that, but they really should have communicated differently)

However, I do believe they are shipping a tiny trickle of cameras.

When it comes to BH, well, I bought with them and don't mind it, but I can talk with 5 different people and get 5 different answers.

It was the same with the GFX preorder, where some employees claimed it wasn't possible to preorder.... (and it was on the website...)

The GFX is listed on the B&H website, but no price and no way to pre-order.

As for B&H, I went to a specialist, who showed me what was in my cubicle waiting to be shipped, which were the two main lenses. He then went to his boss, who reported that they have no idea when the X1D will ship to them.

The elephant in the room is that, as we look across the globe, at all the folks who pre-ordered, we see almost no activity as to receiving the end product. You can, of course, believe whatever floats your boat, but I am not going to respond any further. No need.

Between the x1d and the mavic pro, dji and hasselblad are a perfect match up!  They both handled the public the exact same way.

I'm sure the units are shipping.  Just not everyone receiving them is online posting about it.  Same exact scenario with the mavic.
