No Refuge

There is a lot to envy about birds, but I'm not sure I would want to be one during a cold winter.

Beautiful image. I can feel the cold.

I have a lit of administration for bird photographers, but I'm not sure I would want to be one during a cold winter.

Lovely, lovely shot!

Not so sure about the interpretation however - to me that flash of beautiful light and colour represented by the bird in an otherwise almost monotone (but very beautiful) winter scene is a thing of wonder, of life triumphant!

Think about it - this bird and its ancestors have been perennial inhabitants of this environment for millennia. All the migratory species buggered off months ago for warmer climes. To this bird though - this is home!
(Not suggesting for a second though that there might not be casualties through a winter, never mind a particularly cold one.)

Beautiful shot - and real food for thought!

Their fortitude is certainly one of the things to envy about them, Tony.
Still, it seems they must at least occasionally yearn for a warm spot, along with a few toasted snacks that don't require rooting around through the cold stuff.   ;)

Isn't there a McDonalds or something close by - I thought they were everywhere! :o

It always astounds me when I see winter shots of small birds that they somehow find a way to stay warm enough not to freeze. This is a great example of their adaptability.
