Apple Cinema 23" vs. HP2335 vs. NEC 2060u CRT
« on: July 17, 2006, 03:37:15 pm »

I have had my HP2335 professionally calibrated by an Eye-One device several times. The HP2335 is recommended by MacWorld Magazine as the best 23" monitor in its class. However, I have never been able to calibrate it successfully and have the image on its screen match my Epson 4000 print outputs.

Out of sheer frustration, I grabbed by mothballed NEC 2060u CRT monitor, calibrated it, and what do you know--at 5200K--the screen to print match is very, very close.

Question: is there something about the HP2335 monitor that makes it a poor choice for color work? Would the Cinema 23" be a better choice? Or some other model by LaCie or someone else? I can't fathom how my old NEC can be so superior to my HP2335 in terms of color consistency from monitor to print output.

Thanks.

Display quality and ease of calibration (or "calibrationality" ;-)  are two different things.   Some displays calibrate better than others while some displays have a higher color quality than others.  Some displays are both high quality and easy to calibrate.  Some are neither. Personally, I found that the Apple 23" calibrates well and has good color quality.
