The mountains were calling.
« on: December 18, 2016, 01:53:31 pm »

Dawn in the Wasatch mountains and what do I find? Bitter, biting cold that is still bothering my fingers a day later. A breeze, slight and normally not even worth mentioning but so painful under the present circumstances. I stand precariously on the side of the highway, nothing between me and the cars coming down the mountain, ice still present. Normally I position myself safely on the other side of the rail guard but the snow is too high now courtesy of the snowblowers from the trucks. I really can't take this much longer so I focus. In the distance the wind is whipping off of the mountains, I pity anyone skiing up there but I have my own problems. I compose through the LCD. I was trying to use the viewfinder but it just keeps fogging up. Behind me the sun is creeping up from the east, touching the left side of the mountain and I push the shutter. It was cold, stupid cold but I had to be there. The mountains were calling.

That comment is amusing, true and a bit sad, all at the same time. I do like the text that he posts to explain the location and work that he had to do. The shots are well worth the effort involved. Thanks for sharing your vision with us.

Every image Mark posts is well worth looking at, and I certainly enjoy his comments, too.

Agreed, it's always a full lunch: Images and Stories and I appreciate that Mark takes the time to post his shots with text here. It's always a pleasure.

ever a pleasure to see (tones, detail at these dimensions, but composition and tuning are IMHO the best).
Particular composition, with subjects/volumes on the left but with that aperture on the right.....excellent.

Great composition and the edit looks amazing. I really like the light and dark playing off each other. I too hear and answer the call of the mountains and understand the sacrifices we make. :)
