Moving From Lightroom To C1 ....Question
« on: December 14, 2016, 05:55:46 pm »

Hi everyone. Quite new here. I'm officially moving to C1 from Lightroom. A while back I converted some images to the dng format. Not the best idea. But anyway now I'm trying to determine if I should export these images in the dng format or as tiffs in order to import into C1. I don't want to do a complete LR catalog import into C1 just a thousand or so key images.Aside from the size of the dng vs tiff files what do you feel are some of the key pros and cons?
Thanks!!!

I would use the DNG. Although not the ideal situation, C1 will still 'develop' the RAW DNG file better than just a tif.

I agree with Mike, Raws (even DNGs) offer more original information than a semi-processed TIFF image. While the conversion of some DNGs in Capture One is not ideal, it may be workable until Phase One irons out the issues with DNG conversions.

Converting to DNGs may be useful in some Adobe-centric workflows, but tossing the original Raws is a sin (or at least not a wise thing to do). There's a large world outside of the Adobe bubble, eh cloud ...

Cheers,
Bart

Do you still have the original RAWs in their native format ?
