HP z3200 APS Win 10
« on: December 04, 2016, 06:39:02 am »

Is there an advantage with the z3200 and APS?
Has anyone found a solution for getting Aps to work in Win 10 (APS installes but does not reckognise the printer)?
If I created a 2nd boot partition and installed win 7 would Aps work, Is it worth the trouble?

consider using a virtual environment (ala Parallels or Virtualbox) so you dont have to re-partition.

sorry, can't help otherwise w/ Win stuff

I really think you should call Hp and complain. The only way things are going to be paid attention to is if we call tech support. And say hey, my HP computer is not talking to my HP printer, what's the deal?

I have Win 7 installed on my Mac Pro Tower.  I use VMWare and it works flawlessly.
I have a APS coming that I bought recently - going to check it out.  Will let you know.
So the only problem with using a virtual operating system is that you'd have to use something like BootCamp in order to have complete control over the computer and specifically the monitor(s).  I know I can't profile my 30" Cinema Displays with VMWare and Windows - no can do.

Easiest thing would be to just buy a Windows machine and run Vista, probably, on that, and run the APS on it.  Then you could always use the Windows unit as a print server, or better yet, use Qimage for printing which is what Ernst does.  He and many others thing it's the best for printing to the Z Series printers.

However, John does have a good point.

Sorry Barry, was in a hurry and mis-read your first post.
OK - a second partition and Windows 7?

Yeah that should work fine.

Is it worth it?  I know a lot of experts feel that the APS does not give a significant advantage over the Z3200ps printers.
There is some debate about that however.  It definitely improves profiles using the APS with the Z3100.

I believe that Geraldo does use the APS to make his profiles, but we will find out when he makes his post about that.

Would I do what you suggested if I had only a windows machine?  Don't know.  Possibly.

You could try making some custom profiles first, then see how that goes, before you go to all that bother.

Then you could decide whether to do that or just find another windows machine and dedicate it to the APS and printer.
That's probably what I would do, and may do yet.
Pretty sure that's what Ernst does, but I can't say for sure.

Doubtful that HP will pick back up and rework the software for the APS at this point, no matter the complaints.

Mark,
I will wait until you try out the APS, and see if it improves the profiles.

Mark,
I will wait until you try out the APS, and see if it improves the profiles.

If you do not need APS for some other features than creating printer profiles on the Z3200 for the Z3200 then you could as well use the normal Color Center profile creator. For monitor calibration/profiling it is not worth installing either, the newer X-rite i1 Display Pro is a way better instrument than the older HP branded one that is in the APS package.

This opinion is based on tests several years ago when I got my Z3200. Both APS and the normal Color Center profile creators deliver about the same quality profiles when used with the Z3200. That was not the case with the Z3100 where APS delivered a better quality profile than Color Center could. As far as I can estimate the Color Center software has been much improved in between the Z3100 and the Z3200 introductions. There is also a difference between the APS as used on the Z3100 and Z3200 if one checks the profile data, it looks like another engine is used. I can not recall the exact names of them though, Logo versus ?. With the change in Red ink between the models (and in my opinion some changes in ink load of the other hues) it is hard to tell whether APS improved between the introduction of the two printer models but I see equal profile quality between CC and APS which was not the case with the Z3100.

Met vriendelijke groet, Ernst

I have latest Spyder 5 - monitor profile with it and HP APS give no change to screen appearance to my eyes. I was just spent mony for new profiling system that I may use for some other things :-[
