Best lightweight lens for my 9-year old & D60
« on: July 10, 2006, 05:50:54 pm »

Since I ordered my 30D today to replace my D60, I thought my 9 year-olod daughter might enjoy learning about shooting with a DSLR -- my old D60.

Unfortunately, all my lenses are large "L" series (28-70 2.8L, 70-200 2.8L, 16-35 2.8L, 28-300 3.5-5.6L).  That's just too heavy for her to be carrying around.

What's a good, lightweight, walk-around non-L lens for teaching purposes that will go well on the D60?

Canon 50mm f1.8.
Tamron 28-75
Sigma 17-70

A 35 f2 would also work.

All of the consumer level Canon lenses would work fine... the 28-90mm or 50/1.8 are great choices...

I agree with the suggestions of Canon 50mm f/1.8 and Sigma DC 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5. They're both compact and bargains in terms of cost and optical quality (and build quality in regards to the Sigma).
