Sony A7M2 or A7R for IR Conversion
« on: November 28, 2016, 02:38:07 am »

Hello Everyone,

I am interested in moving to IR Photography. I am already using Sony A7r2 and therefore have 4-5 emount lenses that I want to be able to utilize in IR photography.

What is your experience with A7M2 or A7R with infrared? I have seen people are using mostly A7R due to megapixels (24 vs 36) but A7M2 has in body image stabilization which  helps in exposure a lot. It seems a7m2 has bigger pixels I am not sure what is the overal impact in resultant experience though.

Any input that will help me deciding in between greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,
Emre

I have an A7R converted. IR is a different critter than b/w or for that matter, color.  The images of fine foilage, for example, tend to soften a bit due to the rendition of the IR.  That said, I would borrow or rent a camera already converted and see what results you get. IR is almost always for landscape, so IBIS stabilization is not needed, and the images I get with 36mp are plenty good, as most are some kind of landscape. 8)
