Hewlett Packard Design Jet 130

With all the recent talk about Epson and Canon printers, nobody has mentioned HP, but the 130 seems to be a viable choice for a 24" inkjet with some serious color management and 80-year Wilhelm-rated dye-based inks. Okay, the roll-paper feeder seems crippled (at an exorbitant price) but it is an option. Otherwise, this printer looks like a helluva buy for about $1000 US.

If you know something about the Design Jet 130 that every prospective buyer ought to know, please let us in on it below!

The prints look great from what I hear, and it's supposedly a really nice printer. The only problem is unless you use the HP satin/glossy papers you're going to have problems with fading, the dye inks just don't hold up as well as pigment when you need archival results. For somebody happy printing on glossy/luster/satin paper who doesn't need waterproof prints the DJ is an attractive choice. But if printing on matte/rag papers (or the new "fiber-gloss" papers) is important to you, look elsewhere.

It will be interesting to see if the upcoming 13" pigment printer from HP will be a precursor to a new line of HP wide-format printers using pigment inks. Early buzz on the 13" model is quite positive from what I've heard...

I replied in the main forum, perhaps that thread should be moved here?
