Tony Vaccaro documentary
« on: November 15, 2016, 01:53:59 pm »

Happened to watch a documentary on a premium TV channel (HBO) last night, and I highly recommend it. It's called - "UNDERFIRE: The Untold Story of Pfc. Tony Vaccaro".

I have to sheepishly confess that I had not heard this name before, but the documentary was very moving and, at times, hard to watch. One of the few times you'll hear a WWII vet (American, anyway) freely discuss some of the horrors he witnessed during his 272 days fighting through Europe. He was actually an infantryman who fought alongside his platoon, but he also carried an Argus C3 into battle and captured some amazing shots. On at least one occasion he developed his own film in the field, in four army helmets. He later went on to a career in fashion and magazine photography. Fascinating man.
