In "light" of other Adobe application developments .. what is the future for the Photoshop CS series? Anyone know?

A major new version of Photoshop is in the works. In addition to additional features and functionality it will provide support for Universal Binary (Mac) and Vista (Windows).
It is scheduled for early next year.

Given the amount of money Adobe make from upgrades then I think it will continue for some time. Whether you need the upgrades in another question.

PS is used not only by photographers but by scads of graphic artists, technical report writers and the like, too, and Lightroom isn't for them. PS will certainly continue for those other markets.
