ipf5000 color matching weirdness
« on: July 02, 2006, 11:25:27 pm »

I printed on the IPF5000 after I first got it with great results.

Then I setup to do a bunch of wedding pics and the colors were green shifted.

I carefully printed some test prints and let them dry 3 days and re-created a custom profile with Eye-one.

Same green shift.

I'm using Qimage to print with ICC totally off in the printer driver.

I tried innumerable things.  But, I have it working fine now, but this should not have fixed it.

I told Qimage to let the print driver manage the color which makes Qimage output a (what they label in the software) a pRGB file.

In the Canon Driver mode I set the color settings to ICC matching mode and set the profile in the windows setup to manual and selected my custom profile.

Normally this should result in similar results.

But, the results were great.  Now I'm matched again.

To review:

Bad:  Let Qimage reference my custom printer driver and turn color management off in the printer driver

Good: Let Qimage not reference my custom printer driver but have the canon driver use my custom printer driver.

Other notes, just in case I tried sRGB and aRGB versions on the input side too.  No difference.  Only the above worked.

Now I'm going to go back to the prior settings (the bad way) and see if somehow toggling the canon driver gets me back to my 1st week of ownership great results.
