Hi, Im looking for a canned profile for Profile for Innova Gloss Type F Fiba-print for printing with Epson 2400. Can you share one with me? Im printing with the standard K3 inkset. Im not sure which black comes with the printer ...I will check tomorrow.

Suggestions welcome on Epson driver initial setting for the look that you like ...I will develop my own. Please give me a starting point for Black & White printing with the standard inkset (if there is such a thing).

Although you have to go through the entire checkout to get it, it's free and it works for me. You should use Photo Black.

Have a look at the "Advanced Black and White" mode in the driver, you have a lot of controls in it.
The defaults I personaly find slightly to dark and tend to drop from darker to dark.

Has anyone used the stock profile for epson premium glossy or premium luster included with the 2400 with this paper?

I have to take that back. Having tried the profile it with different images I find the shadow details to be bad. The darkest shadows gets too bright, and then there is a sudden cut to black. And dark colors seem to "drown", in lack of technical terms. I've tried all kinds of curve adjustments to help this but no..

Using Epsons Color Controls and with the Semigloss (my best guess) paper setting I get much better tones down there, very smooth and nice. However I get slightly more correct blues and greens with the profile than with Color Controls. Overall Color Controls is the better choice I think.

Has anyone else found the same? Or found a better icc profile?

I haven't tried it yet so I cannot make a recommendation, but for your information Innova provides ICC profiles for this paper. Go to www.innovaart.com. Get in touch with Wayne Connelly there, who can send you the appropriate profile. I use an Epson 4800. Innova recommends setting the paper type to Premium Luster, 1440 DPI quality and colour manage through Photoshop. I'd be interested also to hear about anyone's experience with this profile and printer setting.

I have a 2400. I settled on the Premium Semigloss media setting as it seems to lay down just a bit less ink in the shadow tones than Premium Luster, which results in a better profile.

The innovaart website has a download section for icc profiles. But it is linked to booksmartstudios, the same link as mentioned in another post. Are you saying that another profile is available from Wayne Connelly?

A profile is available from Wayne Connelly. Whether or not it is the same profile provided by the link at booksmartstudio I do not know.

With the profile I have now I've used 2880 DPI quality. When I got all the time in the world, is there any other reason to select 1440 DPI in stead?

Perhaps you should do a direct comparison of prints from a few of the same images with one set at 2880 and the other at 1440. You could then see whether the extra time and ink is worthwhile.

Using an Epson 2400 with Innova f-type gloss paper, I have tried a number of alternatives on the same B&W image. The Booksmart Studio profile, at least with my set-up, is extremely accurate. It provides excellent shadow detail and smooth tonal gradations, and is dead solid neutral in color. Using Epson's luster profile I get beautiful tonality, but the shadows go dark and lose detail. I also tried using Epson's advanced black & white mode with luster paper settings; this gives quite accurate color (I tend to use a slightly cool/purple tone) but the shadows again go dark. I got passable results tweaking the Epson black & white driver to go lighter, but not as good as simply printing a straight monochrome file to the Booksmart profile. Lastly, I tried using Photoshop's duotone mode. I get great results with this on my 7600 using cotton rag papers and matte black ink, but using both the Booksmart and Epson luster profiles the toning is exaggerated. Only the most subtle duotone ink choices look right on the Innova paper.

I'd be curious to know your reason for choosing the luster setting for your Innova Ftype profiles. On my 2400 with PK @Best Photo I ran some density test files at various media settings and found PremSemigloss to give the highest dmax without density reversals from RGB 12 12 12 down to 000. I ran these tests without the Color Base calibration. Then I ran the ColorBase calibration for the PremSemigloss and built the profile on top of that.
Just curious as to what determined your media choice and whether the profile was built with ColorBase calibration active. Thanks.

The profiles were created with no color adjustment set in drivers. I did not find the same results as you with the comparison of Premium Luster Vs. Semigloss. Yes, the DMax is better using SemiGloss but as a canned profile it caused problems. The reason we had to choose Premium Luster even though it might have a SLIGHTLY lower DMax as compared to Premium Smeigloss is due to user environments. Many people had problems with roller marks when they were in humid conditions, yes one may argue they should print in better environments. However, from Innova's stand point we needed a canned profile that would work for every environmental condition. Problem was that Prem Semigloss was just laying down too much ink and caused problems in only the darkest of dark prints. Imageprint had the saem problems with their profiles for a little while.

Thanks for the info. Knock on wood I have yet to see that problem, but maybe next summer I'll get lucky .
