Crummock Water from Low Fell
« on: September 28, 2016, 11:30:01 am »

Went for a walk hoping for some late evening sunshine but low cloud hung over the hills and mist was starting to form in the valley. This is after the sun had fallen behind the neighbouring hills but was still just illuminating the top clouds. Some heather is still blooming but few trees are showing Autumn colours. I hope that the Autumn gales stay away for a few more weeks. All comments welcome.

Yep, very nice. It's the sort of thing that makes being up at daft o'clock worthwhile (typed at 0413  :'( )

The splash of heather in the foreground is wonderful.

I like the overall darkness surrounding these splashes.

I am starting to explore darker, moodier images and like everything new I am unsure if they have any merit . I think that I have lightened the mist too much. I had shot with an ND grad and had overdone it so trying to reverse it in post I have left that part of the image a little too bright. Attached is a mono shot from approx 1hr earlier. I drove 1 hr to the location, 1hr walking up the hill, 20 sec sunshine. 2 hrs hoping that the light would return and then back down to the car and home. The positive comments will encourage me to go out more in the typical weather for here, wet and mostly overcast.

I agree about the mist that is why I didn't join in the praise. The second is better imo.

I LOVE the B&W version.
The color one was, as I said, "nice."

I like them both but now that you mentioned the mist I can't help but see it being too light in the first.
Wonderful scene and very nice captures!

Thanks everyone for the comments. I have darkened the mist down and removed a couple of dust spots. Ken
