#2 works well, but I like the depth in #1.

#1 for me, because of the light,colour, and the sense of scale.

I like them both very much. I think I prefer the second, but I feel it would be better-balanced with a little more sky.

I do have compositions of that scene with more sky. However, I wanted to present a mix in my blog post and so chose this one. And as is not uncommon in Iceland, just a couple of minutes later the scene changed dramatically with the advent of a snowstorm. See attached screengrab of the unprocessed file.
