question regarding sony vaio notebook
« on: June 28, 2006, 08:33:16 am »

hi,

hope you can help.

I was just about to buy a vaio FE21B but thought i'd just double check a few things.

I found out that this model uses the original x-black screen. There is a newer x-black screen with double lamp technology. Reportedly brighter.

My main use for the notebook is in the field for reviewing images and whilst away from my desktop being able to process and edit using photohshop.

My question really is. Is the X-Black II that much better than the original. I am already stretching my budget by 150gbp to buy the FE21B (which has exactly everything else i want/need) and a further 100-150gbp to get the model with the x-black II is probably a step too far.

Does anyone have any comments or experience with these products who could help me decide.

cheers

Out and about I use a Sony VGN-T2XP which has the original x-black screen. I've never got back to "base" and realised that the Sony screen had caused me to mis-judge an image when I review it on my main system.

question regarding sony vaio notebook

thanks jamie

i may actually be changing tack slightly after going into a local supplier.

I have actually decided (almost) that a 14.1" widescreen is going to be better for my needs. Jut that bit more portable.

main editing on my desktop and really just storage and 'checking' (settings, sharpness etc) whilst in the field. The 14.1" being easier to manage in car etc. And tbh if away for extended period then i will 'learn' the laptop wrt reading he screen correctly.

To this end i'm looking at a dell again. The portable 640m. I have tested the screen and the performance(dual core cpu, 7200 rpm drive, 1gig min ram etc) and i'm quite pleased with the overall package and it's also 250 gbp cheaper than the sony.

Not ordered it yet but unless something seriously changes my mind then i think i will be.

thanks for your input,

cheers,
