Thinking about selling my printer
« on: September 20, 2016, 10:39:32 pm »

We're in the process of thinking about moving to Colorado. Summer in Sarasota is inhospitable.

I am thinking about selling my 7890. It's in excellent condition. One nice thing about living in a subtropical climate is there is enough humidity in my climate-controlled office to keep the inks from clogging the heads. Maybe three or four times a year one channel gets blocked so I'll set the printer to clean two channels (a pair).

Since I've retired, I don't need to print anything wider than 17 inches. I've got a few unopened boxes of 24" Hahnamuhle Photo Rag Baryta, and a couple rolls of Epson Premium Luster. The printer is about three years old. I bought it just prior to closing my photo business, so it's been used regularly, but mostly for printing 8" X 11." sheets. It's virtually new. I don't think it's gone through more than two sets of ink.

I am located an hour south of Tampa. If anybody out there is interested, let me know. Please accept my apologies for posting this here instead of the "for sale" forum. Since I'm on the fence and am not sure about how much it is worth, I figured I'd post here to read what people think.

Sorry I can't use a 7890, Bob. I just got a P800 to replace my ancient 3800, and that's as big as I can possibly go.

Also, I thought I should warn you that you won't find many ocean beaches in Colorado for sunrise shots.   ;)

Good luck with the move, if you make it.

You'll enjoy the Colorado summers. In the winter you'll be pining for Sarasota!

As a 40+ year corporate pilot I have been to south Florida between 600 and 700 times. (Owner of the airplane lives there.)
The most asked question to me is when I retire where in Florida am I moving.
I say nowhere in Florida. (Sorry Floridians.)
Although the winters are great the rest of the year is just awful!
My last day flying will probably be my last day in Florida although I am sure I may go back to visit.
Give me a cabin in the mountains with snow and a wood stove and I will be a happy camper.

As far as your printer is concerned 50% of new is probably a pretty good starting point, picked up of course.
I shipped my perfectly working 7900 to Eric in Ca. (Yes that Eric.) and the rest is history.
I just purchased a used 9890 in like new condition with 3 months left on the 3 year warranty for $1500.
Good luck on your sale.

All depends. Denver and the whole front range is actually quite temperate in the winter. Sure, it snows, but the sun is out 300 days a year. Like my buddy says, it's a dry cold.

My sentiments exactly. I do wonder if the dryer climate will cause the head to clog. Although from my experience, the 7890 clogs much less than the 7900. I think the orange and green channels are the culprits.
