Pentax keeps the good stuff coming, now with Vr 1.3 (coming around 09/26/16) EFC use is being expanded.  Depending on how you read it, Pentax may being giving a full electronic shutter not just EFC.  They already have EFC for pixel shift.  The wording is a bit vague, but for sure EFC will be now useable from Live View as with the D810.

Is there really any advantage to having the square crop? After all, you can do it afterwards... and without a viewfinder that shows clearly the limits of the crop, there is a good chance that you may regret those discarded pixels...
