Dawn on the Palatlakaha

With the summer heat beating on everything, St. Augustine for some street photography hasn't been an attractive thought. But many mornings I walk the river when the sun's just up.

Actually, no. It's a boathouse, currently without a boat.

I like this one quite a lot, Russ. It looks like it might also be a good candidate for B&W.

I guess you need to start thinking of the river as your local "street."

I like the B&W better....but I almost always do. The boathouse is hidden by the foliage which dominates the frame. I think this makes the viewer want to see more, wondering what is there.... which is a nice effect. But I wonder if just a little more of the boathouse showing would enhance that effect and maybe give it a touch more context?

In this instance I think the colour wins but the B&W isn't far behind. Both would look fine with a frame around them and hung on a wall.

Here's the boathouse from a slightly different angle -- again, shortly after sunrise. An interesting thing about the river is that I can walk it as many times as I want to and the light is always slightly different. I must have at least fifty shots of my favorite tree, and they're all different. Same thing is true of this boathouse. I've shot it over and over again and the pictures are all different.

Me too - and yes, as Eric suggests, the river may be the new street for Russ!
