Epson 9890 will not print "Filter Fail"
« on: September 14, 2016, 03:59:13 pm »

Received my replacement 9890 today and after driver download my first print from Lightroom gives me a filter fail after 15 seconds.
Does the same thing with my Mac Pro and Macbook Retina.
Same ethernet wire from my 9900 was used through my network.
Called Epson support and he insisted it is a Mac problem except that all my other printers work fine.
Epson sent detailed instructions to dump the printer and driver and all that did was dump the drivers on all 6 of my Epson printers. Not a happy camper.
Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Fixed it. For some reason their was a delay on the screen when adding printer and the only choice was Bonjoir.
This time I waited a little longer and the IP driver came up. Works perfect now.
Now all I have to do is go back and load the drivers for the other 5 Epsons that were dumped.
Some days it doesn't pay to get out of bed..

Glad it worked out for you Dan. I have a 'filter fail' error on my 9900 that happens whenever I try to print on sheets. Everything else works fine. Epson says it's Mac OS, Adobe says it's Epson, and Apple says it's Epson. After hours on the phone with Apple, they could only suggest a complete reinstall of the OS. I have other issues, so waiting until I upgrade the computer. :(  No support anywhere seems to be able to 'fix' the Filter Fail error.

When I called Epson tech support he insisted the problem is a Mac issue.
I can tell you almost as a fact if I would have called Apple they would have insisted it was entirely an Epson issue.
This is what Epson support sent me, it did not work because I selected the wrong driver.
What it did do was dump all of my 5 Epson printer drivers in the trash.
I was not a happy camper.
What finally worked was in preferences I deleted the 9890. Added it again and this time selected the IP driver, fixed.

Hi Daniel,

Please follow these steps:

Uninstall/Reinstall on a Mac

Clear any pending jobs in the print queue before doing the following steps:

Go to System Preferences
Print and Scan
Highlight the printer
Click the minus "-" sign

Open the Mac HD
Go to Library folder
Go to Printers folder
Drag the Epson Folder to the trash can
Restart the computer

Go to your Mac Hard Drive
Applications
Utilities
Open the Disk Utility.
Click on and highlight your main Mac Hard Drive in the list on the left.
Select Repair Disk Permissions.
restart your computer.

Download the Drivers from Epson.com
Run the install
After install successful comes up
Restart computer again
Go back to system Preferences
Print and Scan
Click the "+" plus icon and select your printer

*Make sure you do not Select Bonjour or AirPrint.

Thanks,

Dan,
I've fallen for that wait, wait, issue several times! Now whenever I reload a printer I walk away from the computer before selecting. That is exactly the same process they gave me a few years ago except for specific file locations that have changed with OS updates.

Glad you got it sorted out.
