When I called Epson tech support he insisted the problem is a Mac issue.
I can tell you almost as a fact if I would have called Apple they would have insisted it was entirely an Epson issue.
This is what Epson support sent me, it did not work because I selected the wrong driver.
What it did do was dump all of my 5 Epson printer drivers in the trash.
I was not a happy camper.
What finally worked was in preferences I deleted the 9890. Added it again and this time selected the IP driver, fixed.

Please follow these steps:
Uninstall/Reinstall on a Mac
Clear any pending jobs in the print queue before doing the following steps:
Go to System Preferences
Print and Scan
Highlight the printer
Click the minus "-" sign
Open the Mac HD
Go to Library folder
Go to Printers folder
Drag the Epson Folder to the trash can
Restart the computer
Go to your Mac Hard Drive
Applications
Utilities
Open the Disk Utility.
Click on and highlight your main Mac Hard Drive in the list on the left.
Select Repair Disk Permissions.
restart your computer.
Download the Drivers from Epson.com
Run the install
After install successful comes up
Restart computer again
Go back to system Preferences
Print and Scan
Click the "+" plus icon and select your printer
*Make sure you do not Select Bonjour or AirPrint.
