eraser tool not working
« on: June 26, 2006, 10:52:01 am »

Well this is a strange problem, all of a sudden the eraser tool won't work on adjustment layers in photoshop. It works as normal on non adjustment layers. Any ideas?

Anytime Photoshop acts odd, you can trash your preferences. You can log into your machine as another user and try the same file again. It it works then look into dumping the preferences for your user profile. This would apply to both Mac OS and Windows.

Also, it my be that the layer or channel does not permit what you are doing.

The eraser tool only works on pixels. Adjustment layers by there very nature don't have pixels. If you want to "erase" the effect of the adjustment layer from an area of the image, paint with black onto the adjustment layer's layer mask.

Don't think so. You can use the eraser on the layer mask, but the layer itself has no pixels, so I can't imagine that the erases would do anything on a curves layer.

Bruce is correct. You cannot erase an adjustment layer, I just tried it!
You can erase a duplicate layer with adjuustments applied to it.

I just worked it out, you can erase an adjustment layer so long as your background color is set to black.
