"technology assets" of Pixmantex sold to Adobe for integration into Lightroom.

Certainly I'm a Pixamantex RSP fan - guess I'll have to look at Lightroom eventually.

Hello Tim.

I bought RSP when released last year but when Lightroom was announced I decided to go with Adobe and stop using RSP because I wasn't sure what direction RSP was going and I also liked the DNG workflow.  Guess I made the right choice :-)

I don't anderstand what elements of RSP Adobe wants into Lightroom because Lightroom seems to have everything RSP has.

Johann, are you a 2 system person?  I'm not understanding how you are using Lightroom since the Win beta hasn't come out yet (I have signed up for the early notification of it--and do plan to try it).  I've used RSP since the beginning--actually since RSE came out--though I often went back to C1 for difficult colors (reds, greens).  I've used Magne's profiles for both---and that brought RSP into almost full usage for me.  Guess that ends now LOL.  I'll go back to C1 until the Win version of Lightroom comes out--and see how that goes.  I really don't like ACR---so am hoping that Lightroom will move away from that 'style' of RAW conversion--as I assume it will.  There are many that like the Mac version of LR--is that what you are using?

I had just seen this news on both the Pixmantec site and dpreview---it will be interesting to see what transpires from here.

Hello Diane.

No I'm not a two system person - I decided that if I want to switch to Lightroom when available for Windows it would be best to use Camera Raw until Lightroom would be available because it is more likely that conversion parameters from Camera RAW would not be lost when switching to Lightroom.

I also really liked the DNG workflow after reading The DAM book so IView and Camera RAW is a good combination until Lightroom will be available.

I tend to use ACR when RSP doesn't do what I want and vice versa.  So this news kind of sucks.  Maybe I'll have to get bibble and alternate it with ACR now.

Of course if they combine them in a way that makes me happy then, good.

At least if RSE is still available going forward I'll still have my favorite culling tool.

agree with everyone here - a long term RSP user, and not a fan of Camera Raw, which isnt up to RSP standards, and I dont need the full Lightroom treatment either.

Being Windows only was a great move of RSP and allowed it a step up on the competition. Adobe is sadly too mac biased and one can expect that to dramatically slow down Windows raw development now.

oh well.

lets hope the long-promised-but-never-arriving C1Pro 4.0 is a decent product.

Another RSP user worried by the future. Another great advantage of RSP over ACR is that it is nothing like as processor hungry and I can run it quite effectively on my old steam powered Pentium3. For my money with the colour engine profiles it is better than ACR and gives better detail from my  10D (certainly more noise artifact free than when using photokit sharpener input sharpening).

This could get seriously costly new PC and probably much more expensive software.

Well, I'm not worried because I can revert to C1 with Magne's camera profiles (I can't even remember the ad to paraphrase it correctly, but more or less'don't go anywhere without it'--that's how I feel about his profiles).   However----I DID prefer RSP and it had become my RC of choice for a number of reasons.  I also have Bibble Pro on my HD--and wish it could use camera profiles (altho' I dislike the interface--a LOT).  I have signed up for early notification of the Win beta of Lightroom--so I"ll see what happens.  RAW conversion is probabaly the MOST important part of my workflow---so I'll have to do what I'll have to do LOL.
