NEC SpectraView II update doesn't work
« on: September 11, 2016, 03:58:31 pm »

I have currently SVII version 1.1.20.00 installed. When I try to update to version 1.1.32.00 (after updating my AMD Radeon HD 6450 graphics card driver) I get eleven "Error opening file for writing" messages related to the SpectaView II files on my C drive. When I ignore those error messages, the program completes, but when I check the old version 1.1.20.00 is still active. Any ideas?

You might try installing using administrator mode. Right click on the exe to select that.

Thanks for the tip, Doug, but when I right-click on the setup file I get the choices cut, copy and delete. I have the 64-bit version of Windows 7; don't know if that makes a difference.

I get about 10 different options. The second one is "Run as Administrator"
Is the update an exe file?

It shows in the list with the various readme files as setup, but in properties it shows as setup.exe.

You know, Andrew, I never would have thought of that! Not after having chatted with the NEC tech support people on several occasions in the past, but never over the weekend. Guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow.

I'm keenly aware of that. It's why I posted it for you since a forum on color management isn't a forum on NEC tech support.

Silly me! I thought monitor calibration and related issues were color management issues! We have a separate forum for NEC tech support issues here on LuLa? They must know a lot more about SpectraView issues. I never thought of that either. Can you show me how to get there?

Yes, I agree, silly. If and when you get the software to operate and you have a color management issue in using it, please ask.

Perfectly understandable (and consistent).
Anyway, good luck (again) with NEC tech support. I'm moving on before this OT thread gets locked down.

When you get your display fixed, will you then be ready to prove your idea that working in a too dim room (under 4 Lux) produces images that are/print too dark? Some or us are still waiting for a lick of proof from you on that concept.

The thread on that topic is locked down and we are not to reopen such discussion until tempers have cooled down, which, judging by your remarks, they haven't. So, we'll have to wait some more.

It shows in the list with the various readme files as setup, but in properties it shows as setup.exe.

1st) Login as the system administrator.
2nd) Create a System Restore point
3rd) Uninstall Spectraview
4th) Install the new version after rebooting and logging in as administrator.

If that doesn't work contact NEC tech support. They may try to blame the problem on your colorimeter but don't accept that answer. Make them help you.

Good luck,

Don Bryant

Nec tech support is very good, they created a new Spectraview build specifically to address a problem I had. I suggest just calling them.

Chatted with NEC's Kira. He suggested I download the update directly from their website, not through the update feature in the software. I did and all is fine.

Wow, actually using a phone to call NEC tech support. Novel idea. Oh wait, I already suggested that.... As did Ned.
I'm sure your duplicate question last night on PhotoNet resulted in the same advise?

Now you can work out that proof of yours that editing in too dim a room produces images and prints that are too dark. You can even start a new thread here, in this forum, providing the proof. Another novel idea....
