AF fine tune issue with Tamron lenses
« on: September 07, 2016, 02:00:13 pm »

I'm experiencing an annoying issue that I noticed after using Reikan FoCal 2.2 with my Nikon D750 and three of my lenses:

  - Nikon 105mm f/2.8 ED-IF AF-S VR Micro-Nikkor (-5)
  - Tamron SP 24-70mm F2.8 Di VC USD (+14 average)
  - Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 SP Di VC USD (-12 average).

As evidenced by EXIF data, the camera always recognizes the appropriate lens. However, this is not the case in the AF fine-tune menu.

While the Nikon 105 is always listed in the AF fine-tune menu, only the last calibrated Tamron appears in the list. However, if I mount the 70-200 after using the 24-70, the 70-200 does not appear in the list in the AF fine-tune menu, and the AFMA value remains at +14 for the 24-70.

Conversely, if I mount the 24-70 after using the 70-200 with a manually set AFMA value of -12, the 24-70 does not appear in the list and the value remains at -12 for the 70-200.

I'd be interested in hearing any suggestions you might have!

Yup this is a known issue with those two lenses.  There is no fix for it currently.  It's basically the data that the lens sends to the camera - both lenses send identical lens ID data.  Tamron would need to issue a firmware update to fix it for the lens.
