Saving a tif as jpg in CS2, question.
« on: June 23, 2006, 01:03:12 pm »

I have question about saving a tif as jpg in photoshop CS2.
When I click "save as" a box pops up with many different file formats, but there isn't a jpg option listed. Where do I find "save as jpg"?
This seems odd, as everything I've read says I should have a jpg option. What am I doing wrong?

Bill

You probably have a 16 bit tif file and jpg will not support that so change the image (in the mode menu) to 8 bit then you should see the jpg option show up like magic.

Or you can try the Save For Web option.

I have acquired a dislike for the "save for web" option, because it removes the EXIF information.

I just went with a simple action, which converts to sRGB (relative intent, with black point compensation) in 8-bit mode, and assigned it to one of the function keys (e.g. F3).  Saving to JPEG then works as expected, and it's only one extra keypress away.
