Novice At QuadTone Rip Question
« on: September 05, 2016, 10:28:31 am »

I was considering purchasing the Quadtone RIP to try to make linearized profiles for black and white printing. Two pretty basic questions:

1) On the website it seems to say that Windows 8 is the last version of Windows that it is clearly compatible with.  Is it compatible with 64 bit Windows 10?

2) My printer is a large format Canon, which I understand is not supported.  My only user would be to make profiles. Will the RIP in any way interact with my printing from PS using the Canon driver?

Thanks.

1) AFAIK, Win 10 is fine. As a Mac user, I don't follow it closely.
2) No, linearisation and profile building are separate tools, at least on a Mac.

I would ask on the Yahoo QTR forum. My understanding is that Win and Mac are quite different in the way that they work so it would be worth checking first.

If you are printing with a Canon printer then QTR is a no go product for you regardless of OS or OS version. Sorry only Epson printers are supported. Visit the QTR home page for more information.

Thanks....I do realize that with QTR you can only print to Epson printers. But I was looking at using it to make linearized profiles for black and white and not to serve as a printing RIP.  My understanding is that the RIP contains a tool to linearize black and white in a profile and that profile can then be used within the Canon driver for printing.

Ok I see where you are coming from. There are tools included with QTR that you may use just to make an ICC profile. Take a look here:

http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRiccprofile.html

Take a  look at the level 2 instructions from this PDF created by Amadou Diallo :

http://www.diallophotography.com/pdfs/QTRworkflow.pdf

I think this is what you are looking for though you may not be able to print this target without using the QTR Printer utility or equivalent application:

http://www.quadtonerip.com/html/QTRprinttool.html

So you may find this link useful:

There is more information available just Google around.
