@ Sean: I understand perfectly, I really love these rocks and the bed of fossil sandstone they lay on - it is something I wouldn't know how to explain with words, but something draws me to the place over and over. Perhaps is the different textures, as people said. The rocks are incredibly detailed and juxtaposing that against a smooth sky / water makes them even more interesting....
@ Phil: to me, Arran is lovely and definitely worth a stop. You need to dedicate it some time though, it is not like, say, Skye where there are landmarks to go to. Arran needs to be explored
