Marc Riboud has passed away

The French photographer Marc Riboud has passed away today.  I recall having seen a number of his photos in magazines, but never knew who had taken them.

Thank you for letting me know; we strive for immortality in one way or another - let's hope he found his. RIP.

I think he found it, Rob, with his picture of the painter on the Eiffel tower.

Beautiful photography, estethically and content-wise.

I, too, have been familiar with his work without proper awareness of the photographer.  Thank you for sharing this...
His work puts me in mind of Cartier-Bresson, W. Eugene  Smith, and Wynn Bullock.

Always vaguely aware of ... but never took the time really to focus on ... his photography.  Now I look again.  His work is amazing.  He had a fantastic eye for composition and could fix perfectly on the moment.  R.I.P.

P.S. He didn't seem to be any too held back by his lack of access to the latest SonCaNikon kit.  At a pixel-peeping level every one of his images is utterly dire ... albeit captivating.

Indeed. Pixel peeping, worrying about the best paper, perfectly linearized transfer curves... are basically masturbation. Nothing wrong with it, but it doesn't do much to enhance life on Earth.

Michael Reichmann came up with a cool term for that: measurbation ;)
