I'm having trouble understanding the Lightroom soft-proof destination gamut warnings. For example, if I plan to print on a paper like Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Matte (UPPM) and have that file selected under Profile in the soft proof, typically I will see more out of gamut indicators if the destination gamut warning is turned on than I would see with just about any paper profile that would use photo black ink (Epson ultra premium lustre or Exhibition fiber) or even a higher end matte paper like Hot Press natural. Presumably this is because these paper are capable of printing a wider gamut of colors than the (UPPM).
If I am correct so far then please explain the following. I just upgraded my printer from the Epson 3880 to the SC-P800. My understanding is that the SC-P800 is capable of printing a wider gamut of color than the 3800. So why are all profiles consistently showing a larger out of gamut indicators when comparing the p800 to the 3800? The out of indicators consistently cover a larger area of the same image when comparing warnings for the p800 to the 3800; seeing more red out of gamut indication for profiles on the p800 than I am seeing for the 3800.
Is this what I should be seeing?
