OSX 10.10 to 10.11 colorsync utility change?
« on: August 16, 2016, 09:28:09 am »

Just having a quick look in ColorSync utility at a profile I'd made for the Canon PRO-2000 on my laptop (10.11) and had a feeling it looked different to what I recalled from my desktop machine (10.10)

It seems that the mesh rendering has changed from 10.10 (right) to 10.11 (left), so that the new one smooths out some dips/spikes.

Raised more as an FYI and wondering what other changes there are if anyone knows?

Perhaps a bit of rounding error fix in graphing library??

There is a forum/mailing list for colorsync (or there used to be) at Apple

I thought that was a likely reason - just curiosity really (the list is still there)

Or bug. Never use it for that task, don't trust it anyway. ColorThink Pro is the hot ticket for these reasons:

A hot ticket at $400 for the pro version I believe?

Perfectly justifiable for people who work in the field and it contributes it to their business ... but for the rest of us?

Any suggestions for those of us without $400 in loose change sitting around ;-)

You've got the free, and I'll suggest wrong gamut map, what's wrong?  ;D

Gamutvision is indispensable for a lot of useful profile analysis, and a lot cheaper than ColorThink Pro. One caveat is that Gamutvision is Windows-only...

Sure - ArgyllCMS - free, just as capable, but not as convenient to use.

If you don't need to work sheet, the 149.00 version of ColorThink will give you more features than ColorSync and this includes the accuracy.  In addition, if you mention a blogger Ronmart, I think you will get another 10% off ( I just purchased ColorThink Pro last week and I received the 10%. Rick at Chromic was very friendly!).  I am in no way affiliated with Ron Martinsen.  I do know Ron and I take full advantage of any discount :-)

One of the drivers for me purchasing ColorThink was the ColorSync utility on Mac seems to be a forgotten application.  It will hang rendering profiles on the system, crash, and in general be slow.  This is running on a 6 Core Xeon MacPro, no excuse for its performance woes.

And Gamutvision is now free, albeit unsupported. The only problem is that the registration system doesn't work with Win10 at the moment.
