Hi Eric,
I am pretty happy with that lens, although it was really bought as a stopgap measure. Just to say, I have three Canon lenses for the Sony A7rII, the 16-35/4, 24/3.5 TSE LII and the said 24-105/4L. All are very good.
Initially, I was not that impressed by the 24/3.5 TSE but now I am quite happy with it. I guess it is a multiple step process:
- Find out the weaknesses
- Find a way of living with those weaknesses
- Discover the strengths
- Enjoy the results
At my present stage, all those Canon lenses are great.
So, if I love those lenses, why don't I use them on the system they are intended for? The rationale is that I can use them with tilts and shifts, but fact is that I have some other lenses (Contax zooms) for that purpose. I guess that the main factors are:
- I have been shooting Minolta and Sony for a long time
- As an engineer, I love mirrorless. It gives me the tools I want.
- The short flange distance gives a lot of options.
In addition, Sony sensors used to have a great advantage in DR, but DR has never been a real issue for me.
But, if anyone asks me what to use with Canon lenses, I would ask "Why not a Canon?".
Best regards
Erik
Very impressive, Erik.
I guess I should have kept my 24-105 Canon lens and gotten an A7rII instead of the RX10 (which also has an excellent but non-interchangeable lens).
