P9000 ink usage statistics
« on: August 16, 2016, 12:24:45 am »

I have printed a status sheet from the P9000 but there does not seem to be any info about .ml of ink used so far. The only info shown pertains to how many pages I have printed. Is there another option in the menus that can show me this statistic ?

I think there is an optional software package called LFP accounting software for that but I'm not 100% sure.

There is a utility that comes with the driver download on the epson site called "LFP Remote Panel 2 Utility v3.11". I wonder if that is the same tool. I can't find anything that mentions accounting in software on the epson site for the P9000.

Does this version work with printers connect ed via the network?
The first version worked only with printers connect ed via usb. So I removed this tool.

I've had a P7000, the 24" version but same head and inks. I used a 7900 for 7.5 years before that. I started using the P7000 on July 5 and was not expecting much improvement but it's better than I expected. Firstly, I have not seen a single clogged nozzle yet, and the printer recently sat unused for over 3 weeks while I was away. Side by side the P7000 prints look better. This is not a night and day difference since the print quality of the 7900 was very good in the first place. The wider color gamut can be seen in images that need it and the new inks further improve minor issues like gloss differential and bronzing. Fade resistance is said to be double that of the 7900, which was already more than long enough for my purposes. If I recall correctly the new inks are rated by Wilhelm at 200 years for color and 400 years for black and white, which of course depends on the paper used.

Good luck!

Edit: I also noticed that there are no ink statistics to be found anywhere, including percent ink remaining in the cartridges. Remaining ink is represented graphically, even in text based reports where it's reported as a line of asterisks. The 7900 reported remaining ink in percentages. I'm not sure how accurate it was, but I was more comfortable waiting longer to buy replacement cartridges.

Dean, are you on Mac or Windows?  If you are on Mac, hover mouse pointer over the bar and it gives the percent.  In case you weren't aware.

Slightly funny, my LK cart has been at 1% for the past 14 - 8x10s, 3 - 16x19s.  The Epson repair person said, change it when the printer tells you it is empty.

And, like you.  The nozzle haven't clogged!

LFP Accounting Tool v1.62, Windows only.

And, yes, only change when the printer reports that the ink is actually empty.

One annoyance with this tool is that it uses an embedded Microsoft Access database which can be problematic if you also have Microsoft Office software installed on your Windows machine.  I'm running Windows 10 64-bit, but I have MS Office running in 32-bit (this is typical for the vast majority of people using MS Office).

When you download software from the Epson web site, the default (determined by the web page) is to take the version which matches your OS bitness (64 or 32).  So in my case, the 64-bit version of the LFP Accounting Tool was downloaded, and when I tried to install it I got this nice message:  "A 32-bit version of Access is already installed on this system; installation cancelled."

The basic problem is that MS does not allow you to install a 64-bit version of an Access database on a machine that is already running a 32-bit Access database, even though the OS is 64-bit.  It's a MS "bug" in the minds of many developers, but MS claims there are good reasons for this.  In any case, it is a pretty well-known MS issue and it seems the Epson developers somehow weren't aware of it or didn't care enough to at least document the possible conflict.  In addition to this problem, Epson's use of an embedded Access database is also probably why it is not available on the Mac.

What to do (for Windows users)?  Just download the 32-bit version of the LFP Accounting Tool...it installs and runs on Windows 10 64-bit just fine.  All you have to do is select "32-bit Windows 10" for the OS on the Epson download page and you will get the 32-bit version of the tool.

@JRSmit:  The tool works fine with network connected printers.  You probably saw a pop-up window regarding USB printers when you first launched the tool...just close that window and the tool will find your network printer.
