Stripes on print from Epson 4900
« on: August 11, 2016, 12:04:32 pm »

Hello

I am starting to have these stripes on my prints and have searched everywhere and nothing found. Please can somebody help?

Epson 4900 printing from Mac with Mirage on Hahnemühle FineArt Pearl. (But it happens also on other papers).

Thank you for any suggestions.

Jorma.

The stripes are (facing the printer) at the left, i.e. when the printhead is sliding back, and mostly at the end of the print.

Paper size is A3. I've had same problems with A2, but less with A4.

Those paper to be head strikes. Are u seeing a lot of curl in the paper?

Platen gap adjustment would be something to consider.

Thank you for your reply, Paul. I didnt quite understand your first senctence, but I guess you're noticing that they are indeed head strikes. Well, I have to say, the paper doesn't have any more curl than any other that I have been printing on. And why are the stripes only on the left side?(Facing the printer when the paper came out)

The reason I wrote that I am printing with Mirage, is that I am not sure how to adjust the platen gap in that software. I thought paper thicknesses etc were all stored in the profiles that come from the paper manufacturer?

Does anyone have any additional thoughts or is there a thread where this has been discussed, maybe focusing on Mirage software?

I doubt that it is adjustable in Mirage. On the 3880 you adjust it on the console of the printer.
What is important though is which feed you are using. Check the printer manual for paper thickness on each one.

what do you mean by "which feed"? like manual single paper, or cassette paper or roll paper?

Paper profile does not store any thing about papercthickness media type or so. Check the mirage documentation regarding setting the mediatype etc.
You must have the ability to set it somewhere in mirage or via mirage in the Epson driver interface.

Hi,

I see that other smart folks are suggesting head strikes.  I had a similar issue due to ink buildup on the feed rollers.  You may wish to go through a cleaning regimen.  I had the same problem, although not nearly as severe on the bottom edges of thick fine art paper after my last switch from Photo Black to Matte Black, but it was gone by the next day.

Good luck.
