LR MObile and data use

Consider using LR mobile and trying to understand how it works.  DOes the app use cellphone data plan or minutes to synch images back and forth, when one is on the road?  If it uses data, does this increase the monthly charges for data use a lot.  Does the app use WIFI automatically if available, like at home for example?
