Neat Image and other noise reduction software
« on: June 15, 2006, 03:59:53 pm »

I am currently using Neat Image to reduce noise in my digital images and grain in my scanned film.   Now that I have the D200, I find that I am using it less and less, though when I need it, I NEED IT!

I found Neat Image to work very well for reducing film grain in scanned film.  I am wondering if it is the best for reducing noise from digital bodies.  Are there any major difference between it and other products in actual use?  Or is it mainly marketing hype?

Currently, two programs seem the best in their job, Neat Image and Noise Ninja. They are equally good in quality, but they differ is use. It’s a matter of preference which one you like the best. I would try both.

This is an overview, maybe not very up-to-date, but I think still relevant: http://www.michaelalmond.com/Articles/noise_print.html

I tend to favor Noise Ninja. Look under the Noise Reduction heading on my site to see a list of available plug-ins and see screenshots with sample results.
