suggestions for Lake Tahoe?
« on: June 12, 2006, 01:46:01 pm »

I'm managing to fit in a long weekend at Lake Tahoe (California) this weekend.  We'll be staying in South Lake Tahoe.  We've been up there before, and have done a little bit of day hiking in the adjacent Desolation Wilderness, but not much.  Does anyone here who knows the area have suggestions for particularly beautiful and photogenic areas for photography and hiking?  I can manage up to about 10 miles and 2500' of elevation gain in a single day, with camera gear.

Thanks,
Lisa

If you are in S Tahoe, near CalNeva head in the direction on the road to Carson and where the 2 roads around the lake come together, in that area there are several lakes that are very nice(don't know about this time of year)Wyndham

Sorry, your post was a little too late for my trip.  I'll look up that area for next time, though.

Since it was a very heavy snow year, there were still feet of snow on the ground at the higher elevations, despite it being about 80 degrees F (no fair! hiking in both deep snow and heat).  Still, some good hiking gotten in anyway.  Since almost noone here had any comments, I have to assume that few of you have been to Lake Tahoe.  Just to let you know what you're missing, a "postcard" photo from the trip:
