Accessory seismograph
« on: August 02, 2016, 04:38:58 pm »

I know the Phase camera has a build in seismograph for checking vibration before taking a shot, I assume they have not build the electronics for that themselves but have sourced them from somewhere. Does anyone know of some company that sells such a device that could go on top of the camera or be attached to the tripod ?

TriggerTrap, an app for your smartphone can do this utilizing the phone's motion sensors.  The app is free but you do need to buy the proper cable for your specific camera.  It can do all sorts of other things too:

The specific function you are looking for is under the various triggering sensor modes.

If I'm worried about vibration while shooting I use zoomed in live view to make sure the camera is steady before taking the shot.

But that built in seismograph does sound like a great feature.

The new Hassy is supposed to have one.

Or you could build your own..... maybe a bit bulky to put on a camera:

When I worry about vibration I consider or do the following:

- make sure my tripod is stable and secure
- hang my camera bag as a weight from the bottom of my tripod center column
- use the 2 or 10 second timer in my camera
- use the camera's electronic shutter if there are no moving objects in the frame (not sure if this feature is available on DSLRs)

pretty cool looking app.  I’m not big on the sony app as a remote trigger, but this is like a cable release on steroids.
