Black and white post question
« on: July 11, 2016, 01:05:36 pm »

Does the color gamut you work in have any bearing on the gray scale of a black and white image?  I will be doing both color and B&W.  I am looking for a monitor to go with my new MBP15.  Will I gain any benefit in B&W post if I get a wide gamut monitor or will any B&W work done on an sRGB monitor be just the same as if i had done it on an Adobe RGB monitor?

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

Maybe I should have posted this in the Digital B and W Forum?

I would say no, no effect on b&w processing, and no benefit if wide-gamut monitor.

Then again, that expertise is "above my pay grade." We have here a color management expert, Andrew Rodney (digitaldog) and he is more likely to notice your question in the Color Management sub-forum.

Slobodan,
Thank you for the suggestion.  Andrew responded to a different post of mine last weekend - perhaps i will just try and PM him directly.
