Any informed opinion of the new release date? Weren't they supposed to ship on June 30?

Yes, they were. Mine was supposed to ship on 6/30 until that day, and then the status changed to "we will inform you soon about the new shipping date"...

I have just canceled my order until things get clear.

Cheers,
Bernard

Seems the factory was affected by the recent earthquakes in Japan.

I want to buy this camera, but I want to wait and hear from some early owners first.  I guess I'm not in any hurry, but it does seem like it's taking a long time.  I preordered the D500 and am glad I did.  I almost preordered the DL, but decided to wait.

It's been two months now since I last commented on this topic. Has there been any news of a release date?

There was a report on Nikon rumours recently that it was probably delayed indefinitely.

Not sure if it sensor only. I have personally lost all hope.

I did the translation from Nikon Germany's statement in German to English for Nikon Rumors (I'm fluent in both) and their statement was basically that they have no new ship date and that they were hopeful that there would be something before Christmas.

I am beginning to think I may have to look for other options to fill this need. Sunday afternoon I was faced with an unexpected photo opportunity, one that I would have used the Nikon DL 24-85 for, and all I had was my iPhone.

The Lumix LX9/LX10/LX15 (https://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-lx10-lx15-first-impressions-review) may be our best option. But that one also is only scheduled for release mid November at the moment.

I guess that Sony is really far behind in sensor production.

No you aren't. Sony RX100 is one of the best 1" sensor options. But people like or dislike ergonomics, menus, etc on cameras, and so it is good to have options. My needs for a "serious" point-and-shoot camera are: RAW capture, as many direct dials, rings, other controls as possible (aperture, shutter speed, zoom, manual focus would all be nice - sometimes I like to shoot manual), ergonomics I like, possibly an EVF.
So, I will be interested in the Panasonics, when I get around to shopping hands on.

I used to own a RX100 for a few years until it mysteriously went missing.

I loved many things about it but its UI and to some extend its lens.

I find the RX100mkIV to be significantly over priced, hence the search for an alternative.

With the new Sony RX100 mark V I wonder what's left for Nikon to bring to the table!?
Talking about missed opportunities, they could have been king few months ago.

Good interchangeable lenses, like the ones they were making for the Nikon 1?

The Canon GX7MKII (or MKI) also uses Sony sensor, and is a lot cheaper than the RX100 series. Nifty little camera.

I was talking about the compact ps larger sensor camera. On the Nikon 1 they tried and failed; some say they didn't try hard enough but this where they are right now. Long ago I was very tempted by the Nikon 1 but in retrospect I'm glad I didn't go for it.
Even as I'm not really a Nikon fanboy I'm still frustrated that they miss opportunities like this where they were ahead of times. It means less competition for the others and less future for my current gear despite having Fuji APS-C and m43.
