I have a small, but thriving collection of orchids, mostly of the Cattleya alliance. Here are two that are currently flowering. The first one is Rhyncholaeliocattleya Helene Belas, a hybrid that I crossed and named after my mother (who just celebrated her 100th birthday in May). This orchid is a beauty. It produces large yellowish green flowers with a pink and red-veined throat, and has the most sublime spicy fragrance. At this time of year, I can tell if one has bloomed by the aroma in the air.
The second photo is the flower of Laelia colnagoi, a miniature rupicolous orchid from Brazil. The flower is deeply saturated red-orange, with a warm-yellow throat. This plant and flower are small: the flower is approx. 2 cm (3/4 inch) from petal tip to tip. In contrast, the flower of Helene Belas is 5+ inches (12-13 cm) tip to tip.
I hope you enjoy these photos, and thank you for viewing. Please leave comments and/or criticism, should you wish.
Best,
Bob
