Nobody seems to ever mention Sinar M when discussing medium format digital. Does anyone have any experience with the camera?

It looks interesting.

An MF system, film or digital, is no small investment.

I looked at Rollei, Mamiya, Contax and Hasselblad.

Ultimately I invested in the H2 (plus lenses) and went with Hasselblad because I was worried about future support and felt Hasselblad would be the best bet. I didn't want to be stuck with a large investment I couldn't grow with or expand upon. I don't know if Hasselblad will be around, are many buying into the H series?

Just lucky I purchase 2 film backs before they went up to $2,000 each!

I looked at it when upgrading recently - its rather big, heavy and noisy, but handles ok...  however -  it' CRAZY expensive: lenses - there's only 4 of them, the 80mm standard is $6000+, and the 40mm (the only wide angle they make) is $10,000+ They should be good at this price, and undoubtedly are, but it's beyond belief what they are trying on here.

The camera also does not accept other backs (eg Phase One or Leaf) so you have to buy the Sinar back - a bad move on their part.

Its an interesting product though, and I think by the time version 2 comes out (maybe at Photokina?) they could have fixed some of the bugs and the weight and got the price down, otherwise its going to be a big albatross.

It sad how both this camera and the Mamiya ZD are trying something new and badly needed - a completely ground up digital MF camera - and both are close, but not quite right for various reasons.

the sinar m looks great as a concept, BUT 1/100 synch speed?! i can't believe that...also, someone who spends 20,000 on one body+80mm lens shouldn't be too concerned about being able to use those old hasselbladV lenses and nikons they have sitting around....great concept, poor implementation and waaaaaaaaaay overpriced, even for sinar...there simply is no justification for it...what can the lenses do that schneider, hasselblad, rollei, fuji or zeiss can't at 1/2 or 1/3 of the price? i think for the same money you could buy a complete rollei 6008af with several lenses and a complete x-act outfit with lenses....and oyu would not be stuck with 1/100 synch speed...

The arrogance of SINAR continues to be demonstrated with their prices. How can anyone justify spending that kind of money with their poor history in digital is beyond belief.

I must admit I am very interested in this multi-module set-up but will definitely
wait until Photokina. Anyway I though perhaps you would like to know
the quote that I was given.

The quote I got is from the dealer I usually buy from. If anybody can
get any better, please advise accordingly.

With regards to the cost of the lenses » it could be arguably 'good/bad'
compared to 35mm Leica R/Canon

However, if this does not happen I will most probably decide for H2 System.

wow this is worse then i thought...over 6500 pounds for a body without back or lens? are they high? and the only reson why this thing is even interesting is the option to use nikon and hasselblad lenses, but oh! that will cost you an extra 3000 pounds! still no lenses...oh of course, at that point i can go on ebay and buy a couple of nikon and hassie lenses for a couple of hundred to make up for my 10,000 pound body!!!!! which is capable of a whopping 1/100 synch speed...a good deal...
who is this camera for? with the synch speed it is not useable for fashion or anything fast, but that seems to be the market for a small versatile 35mm/slr style MF camera...i can't see many landscape/fine art guys saying, yes, just what i was waiting for!
i love sinar, i have owned a 4x5 in the past and thier lenses and cameras are incredible...their digi backs are very good, at this point i would buy an emotion over leaf and phase (i have owned leaf and i do own phase) and i was very excited when this camera was announced (5years ago?)...and really the price of a body has never really mattered to me...but this is totally out of proportion...and i still cannot get over the fact that even if the price was half, the camera would still not work for me...H1/2 1/800, 6008 1/500 or 1/1000, m 1/100

Att: pss

I couldn’t agree more with you, only my list of complaints is a little longer and exceeds few paragraphs, therefore I did not bother listing. We will see if they are enthusiastic about improving Sinar M at Photokina. If not, H2/H3 Sounds good enough.
