Hasselblad X1 D
« on: June 22, 2016, 01:50:44 pm »

Hi everyone,

Just trying to get a taste of how you welcome the new member of the Hasselblad family, and if you think it is worth paying € 8,000 for...

Cheers

Humongous thread in progress in the Medium Format forum.  The first half of the thread is pre announcement speculation, the second half is post announcement discussion:

If I had the sort of money needed to buy one, I'd probably pay some money off my mortgage, but if I had the amount spare, I'd get one. I'm just hoping that Fuji will do something similar, but without the high cost & without the in-lens shutter, allowing a wider range of lenses to be used

Either Fuji, Pentax or Sony could certainly come with a cheaper version of their own with FPS and a tilting screen (a must). Then I'm in. Or once more another D35. A Sony A7 camera with 50+ mp's with three GM primes sounds like a super cool mighty killer system.

Hasselblad X1D: the world's biggest compact camera?!
« Reply #7 on: July 07, 2016, 11:01:08 am »

First, that for answering my quest in another thread: apparently yes, the X1D can be discussed in the "Compact System Camera" forum!

Secondly, on price: compared to the various other cameras using the same 44x33 format sensor, this one is almost bargain priced.  I'd wait for a future model with tiltable rear-screen for belly-level and ground-level use (children, flower and bug macros, making conversation and eye-contact with subjects while framing) but I think Hasselblad has started on a promising path to the long-term future of what I call "large format" digital cameras.

P. S. Many people talk of Fujifilm possibly entering this sector: is there any recent evidence for this, or is it just from a general feeling that Fujifilm would do a good job, has broken with SLRs and innovated with things like its X system cameras, and the vague argument that Fujifilm used to make some nice manual focus medium format film cameras?

Mostly because Fuji Rumors which has a pretty good track record for a rumor site has been stoking those rumors.

Hi,

Eric, you are absolutely right.

But, speculation is fun… Also, building a new system is speculation. A good platform may be around for many years. A vendor building a new platform looks at roadmaps for the future and extrapolates.

Offering a short lived platform will not make customers happy. Be sure that Hasselblad (or any other vendor) has plans for generations two and three.

Best regards
Erik

Let's not forget Fuji's impecable history in medium format and that they are outstandingly prolific and fast creating full glass lines of top notch quality.

A number of folks were hoping for a CCD sensor. Oh well. Not that I could afford one either way.

That would have been a very irrealistic expectation since CCD sensors are well known for their intrisic inability to output the kind of stream needed to feed an electronic viewfinder.

Cheers,
Bernard

Did we know for a fact that the camera would have an EVF before it was released? I never read anything outside of rumors to that effect, but I wan't following the run-up on the camera religiously. Personally, I would have gladly traded the EVF for the imaging from their CCD. But I know I'm in a small minority with that viewpoint. And after seeing the camera, the heat generated by a big CCD in that small body poses a host of potential problems.

How would an X1D with an OVF differ from an H6D?
