AFAIK there is no difference between the "versions" of Photoshop. The only difference is the licensing and price paid.

What do you have to lose? Download and run the updater, but pay attention to the installation instructions carefully.

If I was able to do it, almost anyone can. I am not the brightest bulb on the porch when it comes to some of the newer software.

I'm pretty sure the educational and retail versions are identical. Since 9.01 is a free upgrade, the installer will simply look at your installed version to see that it is indeed CS2. Give it a try.

And for further paid upgrades: My first version of PS was the educational version 6. I have bought and installed all of the regular upgrades since then with no problem. Generally, as I understand it, Adobe has special educational prices for full products, but not for (paid) upgrades (like CS1 to CS2, for example.)

I got the educational version of PS 3 and have updated to every new version since then with no problems. Somewhere along the line, PS stopped displaying the educational version logo on startup and I'm not sure what version Adobe now thinks that I have. As I understand the educational license, one is not permitted to use that version of PS for commercial work.

I downloaded the updater file for Photoshop CS2 at work on our fast T1 line (I have dial up at home) I get this file: PSCS2_Updater.exe
I bring it home on a flash stick, bring the flash stick files up on my PC. Frist, I moved the updater file to program files, I then clicked the updater file, this brings me to WinZip self extractor, I run the exactor, 24 files opened. I then click the setup.exe file, at this point it just brings me back to WinZip self extractor and doesn't install the up date.
Anyone have any ides why it doesn't install the up date? I must be doing something wrong? I don't see why this shouldn't work, in fact, it should have installed the up date after running the WinZip self extractor.

BTW. Dail up would take over 4 hours.

Some updaters must be in the same directory as the program to be updated--have you looked at all the information in the Read Me file on how to update? Have you checked you current PS version to make sure that a) you aren't already updated or  it didn't already work?

Bill,

When I did my 9.01 update, I unzipped and ran setup.exe and it looked as if nothing happened. But the next time I opened CS2 and checked the version, it said I was now running 9.01. So I think the actual update happens very quickly, and I don't remember it even telling me when it was done.

So larkvi may be right: you may have updated successfully. Do check the version number, and let us know what you find.
