Great timing Seamus. Reminds me of the girls in front of the bayonets at Kent State.
(Gotta wake up this morning)
Why? I seldom find today better than yesterday. In fact, I find that it's ever more difficult to know the day of the week. It simply doesn't make any difference, except that weekends I usually end up cooking at home.
As my regular watch is currently away having a holiday (at my considerable expense) in a spa somewhere in Geneva, I thought about an old
Tissot I have, long unused, and last I knew not working. It's even older than the beast on holiday, having been bought in Bombay (not by me!) during WW2. In an attempt to set the time, I discovered that the rod comes right out of the watch, but now, about half-a-day later, it's still working and apparently keeping time. How odd. Once the other returns, I'll see if I can have this one attended to somewhere. I also inherited an equally old
Smiths - gold (I think) and that went okay for a while, but is currently incapable of any activity. Somewhere in the back of my mind is a memory of having taken the one with the removable rod to the local
Tissot dealer before and being told to forget it... I find it very hard to throw things away, especially if they don't work; I develop sentimental attachments. Working 'blads were easy to throw out with babies, bath waters and experience. Must be a specialty I have, an inborn talent.
Have you ever thought about how strange watch advertisements were back in the 50s? This old thing from the 40s proclaims, proudly below its name:
Antimagnetique. And you know what, it's absolutely true: you can empty a box of pins on top of it, and not a single one sticks! Amazing.
