I guess there would be nothing wrong with trying.
If one was able to get enough texture from the shadows in the foreground it might work.
However if those shadows would still be as featureless then I personally don't think it would work.

The colour version - as posted - does work as is because of the beautiful light in the middle-ground and back-ground.
The meander of the river provides enough interest and detail and leads one toward that fantastic light.

Beautiful scene, good light. The outline of Hjörleifshöfði in the distance adds a nice touch.

Thanks for the comments; and Rajan, thanks for the name of the mountain. Tony, it's not in fact a river, it's just some water on the beach.

The exclamation mark was intended to indicate that I thought colour was essential, but it's nice that people agree.
