The world is full of vandals; some only chew gum, which is fine, but then rather than swallowing it and solving the problem slowly, long-term, and by eliminating the users at source, they spit it out onto the street. Thus it gets onto people's shoes, carpets etc. etc. all quite apart fom the look of the pavements where what's left of the muck stays on, apparently for ever. Even dog shit vanishes - eventually; those who deposit gum most be worse than dogs, for dog are presumed innocent.
What can you do? The term sentient being is a misnomer. Just look at the pictures some take.
