weird LightroomCC 2015 behavior
« on: April 22, 2016, 03:00:28 pm »

My top, bottom, ands side panels have disappeared in all Lightroom CC2015 , this is not a case of tab or tab+shift or of being switched into fullscreen mode but of the real estate where the panels should be showing panels being blacked out. I am in OS X 10.11.4

This was not happening this morning.

When I minimize the Lightroom window and then open it up again the panels are reappear until I do anything, then they disappear again. When I toggle from full to standard view they reappear briefly and disappear

Problem solved by closing Lightroom and then re-launching. It may have been caused by my putting the computer to sleep while I went to the gym and had lunch.

Yes, dangerous things: gyms.  Avoid.

Hmmmm.... you would expect it to come back from sleep gracefully.  Was anything else beside Lr running on the computer?

As it has hundreds of times for me up until today. Katrin Eismann suggests "Trash the prefs just like in PS. Quit and relaunch while pressing command + option+ shift...and click yes to reset prefs.”

'Weird behaviour' is normal behaviour for Lightroom CC2015. I haven't spent a moment of my adult life in a gym & my installation of Lightroom is erratic in it's behaviour. Glad to hear it's working again for you.

A good solution.  It does beg the question though, how did the prefs get corrupted?

Good question. All I know is, for YEARS this has been an issue with Photoshop and more recently LR. I've seen the fix work more times than I can remember, especially with Photoshop.

And ask why for years it's only really been a problem on the Mac.

Maybe for LR but not Photoshop, not in my experience, with hundreds if not more tech support issues reported through our software company.

With all apps trashing the preferences is a Mac cure-all in a way it simply isn't on Windows.

Again, that's simply not correct for Photoshop based on many years of tech support calls for Pixel Genius customers experiencing a number of PS issues on both platforms. Trashing the preference's, according to years of feedback from these customers fixed the various wonky issues reported. I don’t know if you are purposely trying not to understand this, or if you are really struggling with it.

Just ONE of many resources that don't agree with John's (presumably unscientific, blanket statement about Windows):

http://creativepro.com/photoshop-tips-trashing-the-preferences-file/

You’re a savior! I didn’t know you could trash preferences on a Windows machine just like a Mac.
And the article's screen capture, to these eyes appear to be Windows.

Further, NO ONE stated it was a cure for all. But it's a cure quite often on both platforms.

“There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn't true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.” -Søren Kierkegaard
Katrin, I, Creative Pro and other's haven't been fooled. Based on years of assisting Mac and Windows users who specifically contact us due to issues, the task of deleting preferences and the results are clear. At least to those who are not fact deniers or have not been fooled by refusing to face the truth.

Not that anyone here should listen to Adobe instead of John but....

https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/preferences.html
Unexpected behavior may indicate damaged preferences. If you suspect damage to preferences, restore preferences to their default settings.

No mention here or elsewhere this only applies to Mac  users.
