Chaco at Night
« on: April 22, 2016, 08:46:31 am »

This is a photo I recently converted from raw.  For some reason, I never converted this one and found the raw just sitting on my hard drive.

Taken in some of the darkest skies I've ever seen, this is a single 25 second exposure.  Shot with a Nikon D600 and Samyang 14mm f2.8 lens.

I need to get back out there.

Very nice! Remarkable the fire didn't get overexposed. That's been my challenge with shots like this. Yours looks fantastic!

yeah, I shoot a lot of astro, and don't typically get results like this. The sky is never this black, and I'm in places where there is nothing and no one. I suppose I could post into a black sky like this, I've just never done it, and then I'd imagine the foreground would be completely gone unless illuminated like yours. Thanks for getting my clogs spinning on some alternate astro ideas.

Fantastic shot! Chaco is a great place but I never imagined how nice it could look at night.
Bravo!

Beautiful shot!
I'm sorry I've only seen Chaco in daylight.

Thanks everyone!

I have some others from the same night I need to get busy  and rework.

Here's what I had to work with. This is a straight RAW conversion with no post processing.

Needless to say, I really love how much information is able to be squeezed out of an Nikon FF sensor.
